This is to confirm the information which I
communicated to you by telephone on 1st August, that
our reply to your official letter of the 30th July (53548/35) about the shipment to China, through Hong Kong, of certain Arms not covered by a Nanking huchao, would be that the Board of Trade would not have objection to the Hong Kong Government being authorised to accord "in transit" status to the consignment in question, and that we thought
your proposed reply to telegram No.184 from Hong Kong might be amended to read as follows :-
"Passage of present consignment through Hong Kong may be allowed provided conditions hitherto regarded as establishing "in transit" status are fulfilled."
We will let you have a reply to your letter of the 25th July as soon as possible.
N.E.Costar Esq.,
Colonial Office.
Yours sincerely,
Arber
